OPEN FORUM-QUESTION/ANSWER

Attention:

Amalgamated Local 8327 Membership,

If you who wish to voice your opinions in regards to education, workplace issues, representation, collective agreement, or other pertinent issues that may apply let us know by becoming a member to this blog. Were prepared to review your questions and suggestions.

As a local, it's our objective to reach out to the membership and look at alternative ways to improve our role as union activist.

a) Share an experience you've had, since you became a union member.

b) Tell us about a person you consider to be a positive role model in the Union and who has influenced you in becoming a union activist.

Note: Local general membership meetings are scheduled at 7 pm every second Wednesday of every month at 2285 St.Laurent Blvd Unit Building D-11, except for the following month(s) (July and August ). For a more direct approach, it would be more informative if you as a member could attend the local general membership meeting.

  2. The most rewarding feeling is knowing that you've made a positive difference in someone's life. I was once told that being in the union would be a thankless job. My committment to the Union was reinforced when I heard my first THANK YOU for helping a fellow member.

David Lipton has received an offer from the Ottawa 67's Organization that would allow us members and our families to purchase tickets at ($5-10) rate instead of the (15-20)regular rate. All we need to do is generate enough interest amongst ourselves.
For more info. contact D.Lipton at 613-260-7205
or by way of e-mail (d.lipton@usw.ca)
Check the posting in your workplace.

  4. Here are some facts you should know about joining a union in Canada.
    On average:
Union members earn 28 per cent more than non-union employees. That's $4.23 an hour more.
Unionized women earn $5.02 an hour more than women who do not have a union.
Part time employees earn 60 per cent more than part time employees who do not have a union.
Along with better pay, union members have real rights at work.
